I see Dal'negorsk is now spelt Dalnegorsk, without the mid-apostrophe, but I have used the older version as this is how this Ilvaite miniature was originally labelled. Don’t ask me why the apostrophe has disappeared, it’s just one of life’s many mysteries. Ilvaite is an iron-calcium sorosilicate and forms at least ten excellent, opaque, lustrous black crystals over translucent, light grey crystallised Calcite with a silky lustre. The Ilvaite crystals are nicely developed, measuring up to 1 cm wide. It's a lovely small miniature from Dal'negorsk in Primorsky Kray in the Far-Eastern Region of Russia.
