A stunning, magenta colored rubellite tourmaline of a classic Russian color once known in antiquity as "Siberite" - a famous gem of the Tsars of Russia. It was so different from other tourmalines from Elba, Italy (Elbaite: multicolored pale tourmalines in this case), that this was thought to be another species. This classic color has just a hint of purple or magenta to the normal red hue we see from other locations and most older specimens (as this is) were cut for carving material over time. It is 255 grams, complete all around. Interestingly, the classic red here is an exterior coating approximately 5 to 6 mm thick, overtopping an inner yellow-green core.
