Schorl Tourmaline (unusual shape!)
This is a mesmerizing and complex Schorl Tourmaline crystal from the famous Golconda pegmatite district near the town of Governador Valadares in Brazil. The crystal is lustrous, jet-black, and telescopes from 1.2 cm at the base to 2.7 cm across at the top. The sides of the crystal are very unique for Tourmaline as there are no distinct face, only general zones displaying a plethora of strongly geometric growth forms that we've never seen on a Tourmaline before! The narrow end of the piece has a complex "termination" and the top "termination" even more so with what looks like a flat, but almost swirling bouquet of a couple of hundred individual tiny terminations! A distinctly unique piece! Mass of 54 grams. You can see why Alvaro Lucio kept this in his collection. It leaps out to the eye.
