Translucent to gemmy, the 7 cm crystals of Hemimorphite splay into an attractive, well-formed, elongated, and tight fan. The luster is superb, with the Hemimorphite crystals easily reflecting even modest amounts of light. Many of the crystals have excellent terminations, with some on the 'back' side being contacted. The Hemimorphite has grown in combination with Chalcophanite, an uncommon zinc, iron, manganese oxide that is even more rare at Santa Eulalia. Many of the Chalcophanites are late-stage, dark-gray crystals, with the largest being about 5 mm across. Interestingly, there was an earlier generation of growth that coincided with the early growth of the Hemimorphite. This created a literal Chalcophanite phantom within the Hemimorphite that is fascinating both visually and mineralogically. This small-cabinet piece is aesthetic and well represents these rare associations from Level 16 at the well-known Potosí Mine. Likely from the 1980s.
