The renowned Aquamarines from the Erongo Mountains are admired and sought after for both their distinctive habits and their associations. This style is from the early 2000s. This very fine, 5.1 cm Aqua is a perfect example. This sharp, hexagonal prism is doubly terminated, with the smooth, flat terminations that are quintessential for the region. The center of the crystal is a translucent gray-blue, and this core grades into gem-clear, glassy terminations at both ends. Just lovely. Perched across a classic, etched Orthoclase crystal, the presentation of this large crystal is highly aesthetic. On one face of this large Aqua is a small, low-lying cluster of what seems to be off-white crystals. Innocuous at first glance, they are easily overlooked. That is, until you hit it with fluorescent light and they practically jump off the Aqua as they glow a bright, neon green. They are Hyalite Opal, which is a well-known and desirable association frequently found in Erongo specimens! There is also a small Aqua and some tiny, highly-lustrous Schorl crystals that add to the aesthetics and complete this choice and exemplary combination.
