An exceptional, doubly terminated, elongate Magnetite crystal from the historic iron mines of Mineville, New York! These iron mines operated for over one hundred years with mining peaking in the late 1800s. Pieces from these mines are incredibly rare, especially highly elongated, almost "prismatic" octahedrons like this one! At 3.2 cm in length, this is just an exceptional crystal with sharp edges and faces with good luster. It is in excellent condition with what could be interpreted as very minor contacting on two corners, probably as a result of the crystal being "frozen" in the host rock. An extraordinary Magnetite that yes, is highly magnetic! An old classic from the Paul Seel collection, something we almost never see for sale.
