Zoisite var. Tanzanite
Tanzanite, the blue/purple variety of zoisite, is a rare and highly-valued gem mineral that is found only in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania. Dominantly purple due to the presence of vanadium, this GEMMY, gorgeous 39 gram crystal grades from a yellow termination to shades of blue, purple and red in the main portion of the crystal. The blue/purple/red colors demonstrate the trichroic nature of the tanzanite as you light up each axis of the crystal. Crystals that have been heat-treated tend more towards a uniform blue color, but this stone maintains all three NATURAL colors, and the vivid red along the C-axis is a particularly good indicator that the crystal is completely natural in color. While the blue in this crystal is overshadowed by unusual green-yellow tones, that is actually what makes it so unusual and collectible, different from others. This is a fantastic, multicolored crystal showing the choice combination of colors and gemminess that makes this limited-scarcity gemstone so desirable. Old material from the early 2000s.
