A unique and attractive replacement mineral, in our experience: dark olive-green sheaves of goethite have completely replaced kutnohorite on this unique and almost surreal miniature from the Wessels Mine in South Africa. This is a very unique pseudomorph where an iron oxyhydroxide (goethite) has replaced much of the calcium-manganese carbonate (kutnohorite), indicating very different conditions during the original formation and subsequent replacement! All of the individual, original kutnohorite spindles in the several divergent groups have been completely pseudomorphed by goethite with amazing fidelity and the piece looks machined in its precision. The original color was undoubtedly pink and now it's an olive green with dark charcoal highlights between the spindles that add to their definition. It is a very complex and artistic specimen with respect to textures and chemistry. Comes with a custom lucite display base.
