This is truly a rare miniature, featuring a perfect floater crystal of the axinite variety called Axinite-Mg or magnesioaxinite; depending on how old we are as collectors. It is a beautiful and very different color than the normal axinite (which is often dark due to iron content), with color due to manganese. This is an unusually fine, well-formed crystal with a robust style, and seems to also be twinned on close inspection. The manganese, as with calcite, causes a hot orange color under UV light but also somehow makes these so they shift colors between other forms of light (daylight, LED, halogen, etc). When considered for rarity and style of geometry, this kind of thing is actually more significant but less expensive than most fine garnets and tanzanites that come from the same location, as this is so often unappreciated. But this one is too good, we had to have it!
