This is a stunning specimen featuring a rather large Bixbyite crystal sitting on rhyolite rock matrix along with several small Topaz crystals and a few Pseudobrookite crystals from this classic Utah locality. The large, submetallic black Bixbyite cube measures 1.2 cm across and is modified on the corners and displays sharp edges with highly reflective faces. The big crystal is nicely isolated on the contrasting, off-white rhyolite matrix and is accented by nearly a dozen, 2 to 7 mm, glassy, transparent, champagne colored Topaz crystals scattered on the surface. For added accent, there are several 2 to 3.5 mm black, almost metallic, prismatic Pseudobrookite crystals on the matrix towards the front of the piece. There is also some lavender, fine-grained, non-fluorescent opal on one side of the piece. This is a wonderful combo matrix specimen from the Thomas Range for overall quality, poise, balance, and beauty. The piece came out of a private and significant rarities collection (anonymous for now, but will be given to buyer), and the previous owner obtained it from Evan Jones. Evan obtained it from his legendary father Bob's collection, who obtained it from Chuck Leavitt, one other of the old guard Phoenix-area collectors. This goes back, probably from 1960s-1970s finds!
