Carletonite
A very colorful "floater crystal" specimen of Carletonite from the Type Locality for the species, the Poudrette Quarry at Mont Saint Hilaire, Quebec, Canada. This piece has very rich royal blue color with some whitish mottling which is common for these. Although Carleton is isometric, this is a slightly distorted, diamond-shaped cube that measures 3.6 cm across and 3.1 cm high with a translucent, rich blue, off-center area and a similar, but smaller area off to the right. While not the largest, this is big for the species and the quality is very good with sharp edges and faces! There is supposedly one reported locality in Russia, but otherwise, the Poudrette Quarry is the only validated locality - and the crystals here are spectacular, like this one! This is a piece from the singular pocket zone of just a few pockets with incredible size and color, absolutely best of species, and brought out by Gilles Haineault in the 1980s. It retains his label. It was later, for 20 years or more, in the collection of Dr. Vasco Trancoso of Lisbon.
