For a mineral so rich in colour Carletonite is also so poor in the number of its known occurrences - just two! Infact, only one - its Type Locality at Poudrette quarry, Mont Saint-Hilaire - has produced notable crystals, but well-defined crystal faces are rare. This thumbnail specimen not only presents great crystal faces but has a really intense richness to its blue colour, and as a relatively pure, off-matrix crystal aggregate, it is of a significant size for this extremely rare species. The largest crystal reaches 7.7 mm on edge. This specimen is mounted on a small colourless acryllic display cube but can easily be removed if required.
