Ferberite with Arsenopyrite

This is an old specimen out of the famous Yaogangxian Mine in China, probably from the 1990s but perhaps early 2000s, and it has resided since then in the choice collection of YaDong Wang, one of the major collectors in China. In fact, Wang helped pioneer the modern "American style" of aesthetics collecting in his community there and, based out of Xi'An, is often called the Chinese grandfather of aesthetic mineral collecting. His collection and his education of quality in choosing specimens informed much of the younger (well, middle aged 50-70 age group!) generation of Chinese collectors and dealers who are now my contemporaries and friends, there. People often went to Xi'An, including myself, to spend time with him and see this collection (one of his Shangbao fluorites is also for sale here on our site). His refinement and taste shows in this piece, which is unique among all others I have seen over decades, for the serrated crystal edges on these ferberite crystals that indicate some complex growth patterning I cannot even explain. Ferberite crystals to 7cm, associated with arsenopyrite and calcite. Impeccable specimen with great provenance, and complete all around.
