This well known orebody straddles the border between Germany to the north and the Czech republic to the south. Yes, such orebodies possibly make labelling a little more difficult, but they know no geographical limits! The Zinnwald-Cínovec mining region mainly worked the deposit for tin and tungsten, this fine small cabinet specimen of Wolframite being an ore of the latter. Wolframite is now used in the relation to the Wolframite Group, representing the species Hubnerite and Ferberite which form a continuous series between MnWO4 and FeWO4. When the ratio between manganese and iron is unknown or uncertain, the specimen is labelled as Wolframite. This solid opaque specimen is composed of three back-to-back bladed black crystals of up to about 5.0 x 4.5 x 1.0 cm with a metallic to slightly waxy lustre and well-defined prisms and terminations.
