This is a large specimen from a relatively recent 2017 find of large axinite crystals in this mountainous region that were the best quality yet seen at that time. Highly unusual, the specimen features robust thick axinite to 2.75 cm across in width, whereas normally the species occurs as thin crystals in bundles. Seen in person, this is much more impressive and really shows off a dominant central crystals of ridiculous size. A nearly solid mass of glassy and translucent, clove-brown ferroaxinite crystals, to 5 cm in length, are wreathed in front by parallel growth, lustrous and translucent crystals of pistachio-green epidote to 3.2 cm in length. A few small colorless quartz crystals are also present. Overall, imposing and an axinite worthy of standing in a case of great Pakistani pegmatite gem crystals. It is hard to convey in flat photos, how important and impactful this 3-D large crystal really is. It is a significant piece for any alpine locality, but especially for Pakistan.
