Description
A historic miniature of Chalcotrichite, the acicular variety of Cuprite, forming rich carmine-red felt-like mats of interwoven hair-like crystals on and in a vuggy gossan Goethite and limonite matrix. From the famous South Caradon mine at St. Cleer in the Liskeard District of Cornwall, England, the specimen comes with an F.H. Butler label of 180 Brompton Road, London, S.W. Such Butler labels include the note 'late Talling', indicating it as likely ex. Stock of the famous Cornish mineral dealer Richard Talling of Lostwithiel. The largest mat of Chalcotrichite measures 9 x 6 mm and several smaller patches make for a most pleasing specimen. This was specimen was owned by one of the most famous academics and philanthropists of Victorian England.
Known provenanceKnowing where your specimen comes from and who owned it adds to its story and value. Good provenance helps prove it's authentic and preserves important details about its discovery.
