HYDROXYLHERDERITE with Schorl
An uncommon pastel green octahedral crystal of Hydroxylherderite with sharply formed chisel-shaped terminations from Dassu in the Braldu Valley of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. This asymmetric crystal measures just over 4 cm and is associated with a 2 cm long black Schorl Tourmaline crystal and some creamy plates of Albite Feldspar crystals. Please note this specimen has been repaired at some time. A neatly repaired crack traverses the full breadth of the Hydroxylherderite crystal and at one time this would have been in two separate halves. The repair was obviously necessary resulting in the fine specimen we now have. Specimen repairs are often controversial but given the situation of a magnificent specimen requiring repair, surely a careful repair is preferable to none at all.
