Crystal ClassicsFeatured
Tucson, Arizona, USAAn uncommon, translucent yellow crystal of Weloganite measuring to 1.5 cm, displaying characteristic oscillatory growth steps and a pinacoid termination. This Weloganite is from its type locality at Francon quarry, situated close to the very centre of Montréal in Québec, Canada. Associated with a mixture of colourless Quartz and off-white Calcite crystals on a grey rock matrix. I presume the adjacent property developments came after the quarry, but whatever, Francon quarry is perfectly aligned to the direction of Montréal’s road grid. The quarry is no longer operational and is used to dump snow into during the winter months. A splendid miniature Weloganite surrounded by small clear prismatic Quartz crystals lining an open, gently curving vug.
