The Cozzo Disi Mine in Italy has produced the best Sulfur crystals extant, and this is an excellent example! This is a perfectly formed, textbook orthorhombic crystal with sharply formed faces and crisp edges. It has the most captivating bright yellow color and is gem clear with a resinous luster, exceptional! This astounding crystal has a smaller, 2.6 cm sidecar crystal containing bitumen inclusions and has a large patch of bitumen on the bottom of, and in between, the two crystals. There are a few bitumen inclusions internal to the large crystal on one side and at the bottom. There is one minor nick on a back corner and a barely noticeable dimple on the front face, otherwise pristine! Great Sulfur crystals like this are extremely difficult to come by. This particular style is well known to collectors and you can see it illustrated in the oldest of mineral books, even to the 1800s. It stands out from more modern styles of crystals found in workings from the 1950s-1970s. It probably was found circa 1860s-early 1900s, judging by this style. Such specimens are rare historically, and given the softness of Sulfur they only survive when treasured by collectors. This is a large glowing "orb" of color in a case, when backlit moderately, and stands out from the modern material quite dramatically.
