Tucson, Arizona, USAThis classic Mexican pseudomorph probably dates back to the 1950s or 1960s when this material was discovered at San José mine in Catorce Municipality, San Luis Potosí, Mexico. However, it took many years for the true locality to be disclosed, with various other mines in the Municipality suggested, possibly to initially protect the source. Forming a broadly parallel aggregate of well-formed bladed crystals, the original Stibnite crystals would have been an impressive sight in their own right, but natural underground oxidation has converted them to matt cream-orange antimony oxide hydroxide - Stibiconite. The largest crystal reaches an impressive 9 cm in length and they are all in superb condition with sharp crystal edges. Minor powdery pale yellow Native Sulphur can be seen in several places upon the surface. An old-time Mexican classic.
