Forsterite var. Peridot with Magnetite
An impressive and hefty Peridot crystal dominates this piece originating from the uniquely altered rocks of the Kaghan Valley in Pakistan, near the source of Lapis and other rare stones from Biblical times (in fact, these peridot were probably considered "emeralds" in that time"). The Peridot group is composed of the prominent, well-formed crystal along with two large incomplete crystals and one small crystal at the base of the largest one. The crystals are a moderately dark pistachio green color and the largest crystal has well-developed prism faces with a great termination, showing off by standing straight up! This Peridot crystal is translucent and measures 3.8cm long and 2.2cm across, with a satiny to somewhat vitreous luster. There are also several, black, metallic, 1 to 3mm Magnetite crystals off to the left side at the base of the piece for extra contrast and interest.
