A very sparkly combination piece from the Huanggang mine complex in China featuring a combination of lollingite, calcite and fluorite that highlights the high quality lollingite on top. Lollingite from this locality has a unique morphology for the species in that it forms these crystal sheaves that are composed of a myriad of individual lollingite crystals in bright, silvery metallic, radial fansprays that are super aesthetic just in themselves. The front display view of this small cabinet piece has the front edge of the bright, 4.4 cm lollingite fully exposed and adorned on the back with two generations of calcite: the first as a dense, pinkish, fine-grained druse intergrown with a later generation of whitish, thin, tabular discs. There are a few small quartz crystals that embellish the calcite. An isolated, colorless, transparent, 1.2 cm fluorite octahedron accents the area in front of the lollingite crystal. The matrix of the piece is magnetite - that brings the total number of mineral species on the piece to five! Very three-dimensional. This is from older material from circa 2008-2010, the brightest luster and sharpest quality. Although mining here continues, the modern lollingites are dull in comparison. This is an exceptional piece for the size.
