Classic specimen from Montana with attractive pink rhombohedral lustrous crystals of rhodochrosite measuring to 1.2 cm in size across the front of matrix. In good condition with very minimal micro-cleaving present.The Emma Mine, located within the renowned Butte mining district in Montana, holds an important place in the region's rich industrial history. Geologically, the district is hosted primarily within the Butte Quartz Monzonite, a massive intrusive pluton associated with the Boulder batholith. The Emma mine specifically exploited complex hydrothermal vein systems belonging to the Anaconda vein network, transitioning from early silver production into a significant producer of zinc, manganese, and copper ores as deep underground mining expanded through the twentieth century.
