This specimen consists of excellent quality, GEMMY, blue botryoidal aggregates of Willemite forming an elongated stalactite of growth; and it is translucent! The Willemite has such a high luster that it looks almost wet, and is a deeper color without backlighting when frontlighting shows more of a sparkle. It forms a stalactite with a slender, unknown crystal serving as its core which we can see faintly, within (perhaps also Willemite). Hold it up to the light, and the piece simply glows a hypnotic baby-blue. Yellowish fluorescence is a bonus. Willemite is very rare from Tsumeb, seldom display-quality in any size; and this small and rare miniature is a great example of the species and the mine. Far better in person! From the well-known Tsumeb-specific thumbnail collection of Dick and Mary Nelson, built mostly from 1980-2010. We obtained this in the Larry Conklin collection in 2008 and sold it to the Nelsons at that time, so it was never on the market. He had owned it for decades. Laszlo Kupi photo.
