Aragonite

Unknown Owner
A classic example of aragonite, variety flos ferri, this specimen from Eisenerz, Austria is in very good condition and showcases the delicate, radiating crystal formations that give this variety its "flowers of iron" name. Flos ferri aragonite is highly prized by collectors for its intricate skeletal, branching habits, which often form as secondary growths on iron rich matrices. The Eisenerz mining district, located in Styria, Austria, has been a historic center of iron mining since the Middle Ages and is renowned for producing exceptional mineral specimens, particularly fine aragonite, quartz, and associated iron minerals. This specimen comes with an antique label, as shown at the end of the video, dating it to the early 20th century, if not the late 19th century, providing provenance and a tangible connection to a classic European mineral locality. A striking and historically significant example, it is an excellent addition to collections of aragonite and historic European minerals.
