Aragonite (Cuprian)
This specimen speaks for itself, with the simple and yet elegant, surprising form...a stalactite growth of aragonite, starkly contrasted on dark matrix. The blue color is due to minute traces of copper as it formed, so this is cuprian aragonite. In 20 years of going to China from 2005-2025, and buying hundreds of these things, I cannot think of another with this special aesthetics that I have seen. It is just so...cute (and normally, we would never use that word to describe a mineral professionally, but here, it fits). The blue stalk, is 4 cm tall and pristine. I bought it in China, kept it in my collection for a few years while agonizing about being disciplined or not to keep it amongst my own collection of generally larger pieces...and am finally letting it go.
