Conichalcite ps. after Copper
Conichalcite is a very rare copper arsenate species and large specimens are seldom seen from anywhere; but this is something completely different - and the first time we have seen conichalcite replacing copper. This specimen was one of only several large pieces from a surprising summer 2020 find at this ancient mine, by one of Greece's well known field collectors. He reported that it was one of the two large examples (the other, he kept as a passionate Greek collector). This small pocket not only produced rich conichalcite (admittedly a bit surprising, so we did confirm by ourselves via lab analysis), but the mineral exists as a replacement of previous complex aggregates of native copper. Guessing from the weight of the piece, there is likely a partial replacement here, with some copper present internally. It is complete, and quite elegant in a "jagged aesthetic", all around. A remarkable and unique find.
