Pyromorphite var. Arsenian Pyromorphite
A large, vibrant and multi-hued orange pyromorphite from the historic and famous Bunker Hill Mine in Idaho! The color is due to arsenic enrichment and these are termed arsenian pyromorphites for that reason, although it is not "quite" a new species. This is a superb large cabinet-sized specimen of the rare varieties of orange arsenian pyromorphite that was found here in the mid-1980s. This piece has great "wet" luster and orange color along with a broad rich display face that is in near perfect condition. It is a particularly large and beautiful piece with the display surface and edges just completely covered bright orange, variably hued botryoids of pyromorphite with some of them having an orangy olive green color in streaks across the front. Individual botryoids are between 0.5 and 1 cm across and mounded up all over the piece for great three-dimensionality. Even the back of the piece is completely coated in pyromorphite as golden green crystals from 1 to 2 mm! The pyromorphite coating on the piece is seamless ALL over which is remarkable in itself - making it a truly complete floater! There is one small bruise on the front that is barely noticable and a few at the periphery, otherwise in exceptional condition! We know how much came out and when - and there were very few large plates recovered in this condition. This hefty piece weighs in at five pounds! This is a particular style from a particular place and time seldom seen for sale, and remains unique in the world for combination of color and style. This was a gift from Joyce Hronik given on 3/8/09, originally from the from Richard Hronik collection; who bought it in 1989 from the Lesnicks.
