This small cabinet specimen has two important qualities which make it something rather special. Number one it is from Clara mine, one of the world's most remarkable mineral localities and a firm favourite amongst collectors. Second, not only is it the relatively rare silver-copper-antimony-arsenic sulphosalt Polybasite but forming Polybasite crystals you can actually recognise opposed to a more typical grey granular mass! The Polybasite forms very well defined pseudo-hexagonal crystals across an area of approximately 10 x 8 mm, each of a bluish steely silver with a bright metallic lustre. The crystal faces are covered with a geometric pattern of concentric growth lines which mimic the overall crystal symmetry. These nestle amongst tiny milky Quartz crystals on top of a block of massive grey, cream and rusty Quartz matrix. The Clara mine is located in the Rankach Valley near to Oberwolfach, in Germany's Black Forest.
