Rarely do you see Neptunite in clusters like this, vertical or freestanding and displayed so attractively on a bit of matrix like this one. This small cabinet piece consists of at least two dozen black, lustrous Neptunite crystals in a tight, slightly divergent grouping that measures 5 cm tall and 2.4 cm wide. The crystals have sharply defined edges and faces, and some are terminated with others being contacted from these growing across the fracture (No damage per se, just some are not terminated because the matrix they grew into stopped the growth). The small, irregular piece of green-gray serpentinite matrix provides great color and textural contrast for this unique Neptunite specimen! This is a really unusual piece, like no other I can recall. it is complete 360 degrees around, as well. This is from the personal collection of our late friend John Veevaert, Mr. Benitoite as he was called sometimes. It retains his own label. John rarely sold pieces from his lifelong Benitoite and Neptunite collection, but this one he let go to a good friend and customer, Bob Reynolds of San Bernardino, whose label is also preserved with the specimen for the future. Two great people, two great California collectors, owned this for a reason.
