A significant and rare cluster of Gaudefroyite crystals from the Kalahari Manganese Field of South Africa! These came out in the 1980s, but mostly were only single crystals. Clusters like this and matrix specimens of any kind are so rare, and this is a choice display quality example! This cluster consists of no less than a dozen, very sharp, very well- formed, jet-black crystals to 2.1 cm displaying good luster. Crystals have well developed prism faces and pyramidal terminations, a few are doubly terminated and a few are incomplete. Very minor contacting locally from previously attached crystals. Gaudefroyite is an uncommon calcium-manganese borate-carbonate hydroxide and this locality has produced the best of species and this is a great example. Ex. Dr. Francesco Bedogne collection with label. Unusually robust in this size, it is impressive and three-dimensional.
