This is an uncommon calcium, manganese, borate from the Kalahari Manganese Fields in South Africa. Emanating from a sliver of reddish-orange andradite garnet matrix are dozens of prismatic, splendent black crystals of gaudefroyite, to 1.3 cm in length. Coating some of the gaudefroyite crystals is a fine layer of micro andradite garnet, it seems (mostly on one side). This is a full and display-quality miniature, and very rich for the species. From the collection and stock of noted mineral dealer Charlie Key
