Tucson, Arizona, USAFrom the Viboras mine at Machacamarca in Bolivia, an approximately 1 cm thick plate of intermeshed, gunmetal-silver grey Bournonite crystals makes a most striking specimen. Viboras is a small operating silver mine in the south-west region of central Bolivia and although it does produce various other sulphosalt specimens, it is Bournonite for which is has become well known. Individual crystals of up to 1.5 cm diameter mesh to produce a flattened face which developed against a former planar surface, e.g. a fracture surface, whereas the opposite face shows individual developed euhedral crystals. The edges of the specimen display superb characteristic cog-wheel profiles. Mounted vertically on a clear acrylic base, this is a beautiful Bolivian Bournonite.
