Description
A superb, good-sized cabinet specimen of the sodium hexafluoroaluminate mineral Cryolite, from perhaps its most famous locality of the Ivigtut Cryolite Deposit at Ivittuut on Arsuk Fjord in Greenland. This large tabular-shaped specimen is composed almost entirely of Cryolite apart from two 1.5 to 3 cm inclusions of dark and mid-chocolate-brown Siderite on the back face. What sets this specimen apart from most Cryolite from this locality is that the almost the entire face is composed of glassy semi-transparent Cryolite crystals as stepped 0.5 cm cubes covering an area of 10 x 6 cm. A remarkable and excellent crystallised Cryolite from Ivigtut.
