Tarnished metallic dark grey prismatic crystals forming a stalactite make for a strange, unusual example of this rare cobalt mineral (a rare cobalt, nickel, iron arsenate). From the famous Cobalt area of Ontario, Canada, the Cobalt Lode Mine was a silver-cobalt-nickel-copper mine was in operation from 1908 to the late 1950's. From the John Hawthorne collection, and later the collection of Alex Schauss, known for his love of exceptional, rare species thumbnails.
