Brazilianite from the Corrego Frio Mine in Linopolis is perhaps the most classic of all Brazilian non-tourmaline minerals from the type locality finds of the 1940s. Most of these were brought out by the legendary Peter Bancroft, Ed Swoboda, and Fred Pough at the time, even as the new species was being characterized. This large, lustrous, characteristic yellow-green crystal is translucent to gemmy and has well-defined faces and edges on the display side, some with faint, parallel striations for added interest and aesthetics. It is contacted on the back and bottom and two-thirds complete overall. The color, crystal shape, and look of these make them readily identifiable - and they remain to this day, 80 years later, unique. This is a nice, large, vibrant single crystal with exceptional color and good gemminess. This beauty has a mass of 173 grams. From the multigenerational Rolando and Bruno Gioia collection of Brazilian minerals
