A pair of nicely terminated Quartz crystals makes for a perfect setting for important Stannite crystals in this combination specimen from the famous and prolific Yaogangxian Mine in China. A perfect, bright metallic, dark gray, 2 cm octahedral Stannite crystal is eloquently placed within the V of the two glassy, transparent to milky Quartz crystals. Stannite as an apparent octahedral crystal habit is not common from Yaogangxian, or anywhere, so this is quite unusual; and it is an excellent crystal from 1990s finds here which remain generally known as best of species. Well-formed, distinct Stannite crystals are very rare. When they do occur, they typically form pseudo-octahedrons, which are actually intricate penetration twins on {102}. Note that on very close inspection there is some minor wear on the frontal Stannite but, hard to see with the normal eye; and it is so sharp and shiny and well displayed that we do not believe the small wear negates the other superlatives here. The tall, well-formed Quartz measures 8.5 cm and is quite robust with a few smaller, tightly intergrown Quartz crystals on one side. The smaller Quartz crystal measures 5.5 cm is translucent and has a rather large, 3.5 cm, tin-white metallic Arsenopyrite growing juxtaposed to it. In the middle of the cluster and on the back of the piece, the sulfide species mineral diversity can readily be observed with more Arsenopyrite present that is intergrown with almost black, lustrous, relatively equant and opaque Sphalerite crystals to 1 cm. Additionally, a small cluster of dark, bladed, metallic crystals of Ferberite are climbing up the back of the taller Quartz crystals on top of some Sphalerite and Arsenopyrite.
