Quality spodumenes and tourmalines are two of the premier minerals from the Oceanview Mine, one of the lesser-known localities in the famous Pala District of San Diego County. The kunzite produced here can be choice and attractive. This large, 160 gram single crystal, is an enchanting pink color that is complemented beautifully by the GEMMY interior and lustrous, striated faces. And in classic fashion, the color intensifies dramatically when the crystal is viewed along the c-axis. Even the fluorescence, a vivid salmon-color, is seemingly magnified by the glassiness of the crystal. Just beautiful. This excellent kunzite is even doubly-terminated, with the top being razor sharp and architectural while the contacted base has been rehealed. From the renowned collection of William (Bill) Larson, this is a choice, aesthetic example of one of Oceanview's most desirable species. It was found in the Big Kahuna Pocket: discovered in the spring of 2010, the Big Kahuna Zone produced the largest kunzite pocket ever found in the Oceanview Mine. Bill purchased it directly from the collection of mine owner Jeffrey Swanger at the time. Comes with a custom lucite base for vertical display.
