Kermesite
Bright, thick needle-like, silvery-red metallic crystals of kermesite compose a dramatic cluster on this exceptional piece from the Caiwa Mine, China. Kermesite is an uncommon antimony-sulfide with some oxygen included, and the crystals here form from two intergrown divergent groups. This is an aesthetic cluster of unusually lustrous crystals that reach 4.5 cm in length. This notable 2002 find from a single pocket area produced the best crystals in the world for the species! The initial, and even subsequent, reported Chinese localities were at first questionable and then by 2008 the Caiwa Mine was given as the correct locality. These kermesites are simply shocking for the species and this miniature from Paul Stahl's collection is fantastic for the species!
