Cavansite is, to my eye, one of the most beautiful minerals in the world; and it is also rare as heck with high level examples coming from only one single quarry at the edge of vast urban development north of Mumbai in India. This fine miniature has such dimensionality, color, luster, and impact, that it stands quite high even among so many others. The larger cluster is 1.8 cm, and both are pristine, complete all around, and so nicely situated on matrix. The color on this is top percentile - or better. It is still common enough on the market, even as the single major quarry producing it diminishes in production and reserves each year, this is true. However, most people are simply not aware how little of the old cavansite zone is left to be mined, only about 80 meters of "blue" tinged host rock as of 2025; and in a quarry already being used as backfill holes for garbage dump trucks. Cavansite will not come forever. No other nearby quarry has produced anything of this caliber. The best are simply the best - for this or any other species. This is from a single small find of 2024, which we bought heavily from, because of the combination of shocking color saturation and perfect isolated balance on stilbite matrix. If the location diminishes and dies, such examples of the finest top percentile become even more important in time. Although seemingly expensive compared to average examples, this really IS that much better. It shocked my jaded eyes (and I have been buying and watching cavansite since 1990 or so). I purchased this directly from the source.
