This is a fine, vertical gold from the famous Eagle's Nest Mine, from finds of the late 1980s through 1990s. It was long in the collection of Al and Sue Liebetrau. It is particularly refined and elegant in form, with a latticework of elongated spinel twins growing off a central lattice of larger spinel twinned gold crystals. The whole thing looks like it was carved or grown somehow, it is so machined-looking in perfection: This is a very very rare style and a very rare specimen as it is larger than 2-3 cm, and intact. It is not fragile per se: such gracile pieces usually were broken into smaller pieces for sale, or simply lost in recovery. The Eagles Nest produced many specimens of many styles, but this is rather uncommon and it makes for a very impressive display specimen, on a shelf. The filigreed and patterned lattice work is all composed of twinned gold crystals and looks much like a certain find of silver from Mexico of similar style (New Nevada Mine from the 1980s). This kind of geometry is rare in nature, but sometimes seen in these crystallized native elements. Featherlight, but with huge display impact because of the surface area and style! 6.22 grams.
