Although not labelled as such, this very orange Smithsonite from Tsumeb mine is quite likely a cadmium-rich variety. It features several very sharp rhombic Smithsonite crystals (to 7 mm on edge and nearly 1 cm in length), some with pronounced internal zonation in colour coating a dark grey sulphide matrix. Unusually, the Smithsonite is intimately associated with small but gemmy transparent golden-yellow prismatic crystals of Mimetite, and a little Cerussite too. At small cabinet in size this is a quite substantial orange Smithsonite for the price and displays very nicely.
