The red, velvety, matted hair-like to acicular form of Cuprite known as Chalcotrichite is a rare feature of the famous Tsumeb mine in Namibia. This miniature specimen shows very finely crystallized Chalcotrichite laid flat on white sugary Calcite from Tsumeb. Its coverage is extensive, but more concentrated within the 'hollows' of the specimen. The Calcite itself appears to present stalactitic growths, or crystals coating a precursor stalactitic mineral.
