Hexagonite is an unusual manganese-bearing variety of Tremolite distinguished by its pale lilac to purple colour. Originally thought to be hexagonal in form - hence its name - it is actually still monoclinic. It was first described from Edwards and the Balmat-Edwards Zinc Mining District in St. Lawrence County, New York, USA by Dana in the late 19th century, and it has still only been reported from that county. This large miniature specimen from David Hardman's North American collection is a really great example of this unusual variety of Tremolite for the collector of unusual varieties of species.
