Mimetite from Ojuela was an old classic find from the 1980s and older, and most of us simply assumed the location would never produce more. And it did not...until it did, in around 2013. A single pocket zone produced amazing mimetite, running from dull yellow to intense yellow-butterscotch hued crystals. This thumbnail specimen was one of the best thumbnails of that find, and we have not seen more since. It features an unusually large crystal cluster, free of damage, and with super display quality. It has the top shimmering luster and sparkle from the find, which also differentiates it from older discoveries (both sparkle and elongated crystal form were new in this find). This remains a superb example from a freak find at an old famous location, which has not given up more since. Recently featured in the book, Refined Elegance (Mineralogical Record, Nov. 2022) on page 130. Laszlo Kupi photo.
