Collector’s EdgeFeatured
An excellent and *extremely* lustrous example of smithsonite from the Lavrion Mining Disrict in Attica, Greece. Since ancient times, this district was mined for silver, lead, and copper. The mines were the main source of wealth for Athens in the 4th, 5th, and 6th, centuries B.C. Operations ceased at the mines in Roman times, but re-opened in the mid 1800s-1980s.
