Tucson, Arizona, USAThis stunning cabinet specimen is yet another example of the wonderful complexity of minerals from Tsumeb mine in Namibia. This time it is Dolomite replacing rather large Calcite crystals. Big, dramatic, and extremely showy, this piece is extremely eye-catching and sits perfectly for display. Comprising a mottled iron-rich limestone matrix, with minor green Duftite coatings, the main display consists of a sculptural arrangement of intergrown large flattened rhombic crystals formerly of Calcite but now totally replaced by bright white Dolomite with a sparkling pearlescent lustre. The surfaces of these large crystals are encrusted with many hundreds, if not thousands, of tiny crystals which is what produces the shimmering effect. Larger individual Dolomite crystals, with a greyish colour occur coating the limestone and as one small cluster upon on of the large pseudomorphs. There is minor chipping to a couple of the large pseudomorphs but these do not impact the dramatic display this specimen provides. An absolutely stunning Tsumeb specimen from the generations-old Weyand collection.
