Tucson, Arizona, USAOften, people think of Tsumeb mine as a place for extremely rare and exotic species, some of which occur only as microcrystals. This spectacular Cuprian Dolomite specimen from the Weyand collection in Tsumeb turns that on its head. Big, bold, and exceptionally sculptural in its form: this piece is essentially the outside edge of a very large cast, whereby the Cuprian Dolomite has overgrown and epimorphed some earlier botryoidal mineral. The thin rounded layers of Cuprian Dolomite form, on one side, the inside of a cavity or mineral pocket, and on the other side the cast of where this layer was attached to the host rock, or cavity walls. Its already wonderful form is enhanced by its subtle mint-green colour and pearlescent lustre. Minor Cerussite is seen on the back of the specimen.
