Tucson, Arizona, USAThis very rich miniature Willemite specimen is from one of the all-time great occurrences for the species - Tsumeb mine. This quite dense, somewhat botryoidal mass is probably over 90 percent Willemite, but its crystal form only really shows through on the inner side of the botryoidal aggregate. The crystals are glassy and bright and present the classic short hexagonal prism form typical of Tsumeb mine specimens. Scattered amongst these pale blue-grey crystals are bright turquoise blue flashes of Rosasite, making for an attractive combination. The outer surface of the Willemite botryoids are orange-brown with a sugary finely crystallized texture with the glassy Willemite crystals appearing around the periphery. The individual Willemite crystals reach 3 mm in length. A richly crystallized example of this rare zinc silicate species which looks superb under magnification. Ex Weyand collection.
