A fabulous, large cabinet piece of hydroxyapophyllite-(K) from the famous Fairfax Quarry in Virginia, from classic old finds of the 1960s-1970s. Apophyllites from Fairfax are the best from anywhere in the US, and they are among the finest hydroxyapophyllite-(K) crystals known from anywhere in the world. This magnificent large cabinet piece features dozens of gorgeous, highly lustrous, transparent to translucent, almost cubic looking crystals of hydroxyapophyllite-(K). Crystals vary in size from 0.7 to 3.1 cm on edge and are just stunning! Almost all of them are transparent around the exterior and translucent white at the interior. Although there are many crystals on this piece, the individual Apophyllites are still isolated to show off their distinct and perfect form! Their contrast with the underlying mint green prehnite adds to the aesthetics and the green color actually shows through the translucent to transparent hydroxyapophyllite-(K) crystals in places. This truly is a remarkable cabinet piece for the locality and the species! It was purchased from C. Carter Rich on 12/11/93 who in turn purchased it from Dr. Edward David in 1992. Ed was President Nixon's science advisor among many other roles, and a mentor/friend/customer to a lot of mineral dealers (including myself) for decades. His first collection, the one this came out of, was widely considered to be one of the most important in the world at the time.
